Investment Thesis
Oraseya Capital is a stage-flexible venture investor backing technology companies from pre-seed through later rounds, with a mandate that now extends to global companies of strategic relevance to the UAE. Their core thesis is to build the UAE into a hub for global technology companies, with priorities in healthcare and longevity, digital assets within fintech, and AI. What makes Oraseya unique is its backing by a Dubai economic zone authority, which doubled its fund from $136M to $272M after three straight years as the UAE’s most active investor by deal count.
Manager's Experience
The venture arm of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), overseen by directors Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni (Executive Chairman of DIEZ), Amna Lootah (Director General of Dubai Airport Free Zone), Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Paul Keely (CFO of DIEZ) and Hassan AlFarsi. The investment team is led by Julien Plouzeau (Senior Partner, in the UAE startup scene since 2012, former Principal at Dtec Ventures and investment banker at Societe Generale CIB) and Omar Khan (Partner, more than 12 years in VC and PE with over $500M in transactions closed), alongside Partner Hassan AlFarsi and investment associates Mohanad Elhartany and Chiara Somma. A separate Sandbox accelerator team is run by Elliott Denham. Portfolio of 66 active companies includes Camb.ai, Writer, Calo, NymCard, Ziina and Silkhaus. Based in Dubai. Invests from Seed to Series B across the MENA region.
